iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have problems with 120Hz screens

Tram Ho

One of the major upgrades of the newly launched iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max duo, is the ProMotion screen with a frequency of 120Hz. However, as discovered by 9to5Mac, Apple’s 120Hz screen is experiencing a small bug with 3rd party applications.

Specifically, there are quite a few 3rd party applications that still run at 60Hz only. This can be frustrating if you expect smooth motion across all the apps of the new iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

Apple says there are two reasons. The first is because developers will need to release a new update, in order for their apps to take advantage of 120Hz displays. This cause can easily be resolved with new app updates.

However, there is also a reason from Apple. That’s because the Core Animation tool for creating motion animations in Apple’s apps is crashing. Apple also acknowledged this error and said it will soon fix it with a new update.

Apple’s 120Hz ProMotion display brings a lot of improvements and a smoother experience, while also helping to save battery. But it’s a pity that high-end iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max users have not yet been able to get these experiences.
