Interpol issues red arrest warrant for Do Kwon, the man behind the Luna cryptocurrency disaster

Prosecutors in Seoul say Interpol has issued a red notice for Kwon. This man faces a series of charges in South Korea related to a cryptocurrency disaster that he created, causing $ 60 billion to “evaporate”.

Officials have charged Kwon and five others with a range of crimes, including violating capital markets laws.

Earlier this year, Kwon moved from South Korea to Singapore, where Terraform Labs is located. However, no one has identified Kwon’s whereabouts at the moment. Terraform Labs has now collapsed.

With the issuance of a red notice, Interpol will notify member states of Kwon’s arrest. Based on the request of Korea, the Secretary General of Interpol has officially issued this arrest warrant.

However, in essence, a red notice does not mean that Interpol forces a certain country to make an arrest. It is up to Member States to decide whether to arrest and extradite. However, this is still the most effective tool to combat transnational crimes today.
