In order to support emergency response even before the procedure for adding capacity has not been completed, businesses have shared international connection capacity with each other, and urgently purchased more international fiber optic cable capacity on the mainland. .

The Ministry of Information and Communications also requires telecommunications businesses to have a backup of at least 10% of capacity in order to stabilize the quality of telecommunications and Internet services provided to customers, quickly coordinate with international partner to restore undersea fiber optic cable.

This undersea cable incident affects not only Vietnam but also other countries in the region. Therefore, it is difficult to open more international capacity because many countries are also trying to connect domestic capacity to different cable routes. However, the Ministry of Information and Communications has directed businesses to be proactive and combine many measures to buy more capacity of land-based fiber optic cables to connect internationally.

Through the monitoring and supervision of the Department of Telecommunications, customers of Viettel and VNPT sometimes experience a slight delay at peak hours compared to before when the undersea cable lines had problems but there was no congestion. . Carriers such as MobiFone or FPT Telecom have a fairly safe level of redundancy to ensure that the quality of telecommunications services and international connection Internet is almost unaffected compared to the time before the incident.

The Department of Telecommunications has worked with telecommunications businesses to continue implementing current and future risk management plans to ensure service quality for customers; Develop a plan on Vietnam’s undersea fiber optic cable routes, speeding up a number of undersea fiber optic cable routes to connect internationally in order to ensure the leading and mastering role of Vietnam.

Currently, 4/5 submarine cable routes have repair schedules. Specifically, the problem on the S6 branch of the APG cable route will be fixed in the period from March 22, 2023 to March 27, 2023; The fault on the S9 branch connecting to Singapore and Japan of this cable route was repaired from April 5, 2023 to April 9, 2023. Problems occurring on the AAG undersea cable route in February 2022 and June 2022 will be overcome during the period of February 26, 2023 to April 15, 2023. The incident on the IA route to Singapore is expected to be fixed from April 5 to April 13, 2023. It is expected that by mid-April and early May, international Internet capacity will be fully restored.
