Instagram was caught accessing camera on iOS 14, even when users were not taking photos

Recently, some users who are using the iOS 14 beta have reported the Instagram application accessing the camera, even if they are just surfing the feed without having to take photos or videos. Instagram has been caught by iOS 14, because of a new feature that shows a blue dot on the screen when any application has access to the camera.

An Instagram representative told The Verge that this is an error and is being fixed. “We only access the camera when users take photos or record videos, like when you swipe from Feed to Camera. We have detected and corrected an error that causes the iOS 14 camera indicator to show up while users are not taking photos or recording videos. We do not access the camera without permission and do not save any photos or videos, ” the spokesman said.

Prior to that, Apple’s iOS 14 also detected TikTok, LinkedIn and Reddit apps that collect user clipboard content. Because iOS 14 has a feature that will display notifications, when any app copies content in a user’s clipboard. These applications immediately had to correct errors and no longer collect data from the clipboard.

With iOS 14, Apple continues to uphold the security and prevent other apps from collecting users’ personal data.
