Adobe has just conducted a report called ‘Monetize content creation’, with the audience being young content creators in the US, UK, France, Germany market, Spain, Australia, Japan, Korea and Brazil. The report brings interesting findings and perspectives, especially on the ‘gen Z’ generation (generation born in the era of Internet development, exposure and use of technology from a young age i>, known as citizens of the digital age) in the content creation industry that has been on the rise lately.

33% are content creators ‘hands-on’

According to a survey, 48% of content creators make money from content creation activities on social networks. Brazil is the most dynamic country in this segment, while in Japan, only 1/3 of content creators actually consider it a source of income.

The people who really make money from creating content on social networks are mainly men, or young people of the 8X, 9X generation.

33% are ‘side-by-side’ creators, i.e. have a steady full-time job and are only doing this to earn extra money. Content creators make up less than 50% of their total income. Monetizable assets include photography, creative writing, graphics, and more.

The main source of income comes from advertising money or direct sales of products. In particular, young people in Brazil and South Korea earn mainly from advertising, while in the US and Germany, they rely on selling products through online or offline channels.

Where is Gen Z, how much does it earn in this industry?

Gen Z today wants to work ‘smarter’, not work. ‘harder’. The same hour of labor, the amount of money Gen Z earns through content creation is much higher. Therefore, nearly 50% of Gen Z content creators aged 16-18 said that they would rather go into the creative business than go to college.

More than half of gen Z content creators plan to be more active in this space in the next two years for the following reasons.

In general, monetization from the content creation industry is most optimistic for young people (gen Z, 8X and 9X), also the group with the highest income from this industry. 69% of them live in urban areas, having access to technology and trends. 73% of these people are willing to take risks and try new things. In particular, contrary to many people’s misconceptions, over 63% of the survey group has a university degree or higher.
