Huawei will use more Kirin chipsets to reduce dependence on Qualcomm

According to reports from hardware vendors for Huawei, Chinese companies are seeking to reduce their dependence on Qualcomm and MediaTek. To accomplish this, Huawei will boost production and development of the Kirin chip, which is expected to equip about 60% of its equipment in the second half of 2019.

For comparison, in the second half of 2018, less than 40% of Huawei phones use Kirin chipsets, but this rate has increased to 45% in the first half of 2019. Therefore, in the second half of this year, there will be More than 150 million Huawei devices are equipped with Kirin chips, based on a total of 270 million smartphones it plans to sell in 2019.

Of course, this will not affect the premium segment because Huawei’s flagship has used Kirin chipsets for quite some time. Meanwhile, mid-range and cheap smartphones from Chinese manufacturers still use chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm.

Things are changing and the recently released 810 7nm Kirin chip might be something we will see on Huawei’s mid-range, low-cost devices in the near future.
