Huawei may have to hand its fortunes to Samsung

Tram Ho

A few weeks ago, Sammobile made the comment that Huawei’s banned in the US will be a golden opportunity for Samsung. This not only facilitates the smartphone business, it also affects the semiconductor segment of the Korean company. According to a recent source, Huawei is seeking to store memory chips and conduct negotiations with both Samsung and SK Hynix to have a stable supply of memory chips.

The Trump administration recently banned chip makers from using U.S. technologies provided to Huawei without Washington’s approval. Although this restriction does not apply to memory chip manufacturers, Huawei is still worried the United States will extend the ban to this area.

Huawei may depend on Samsung’s memory chip business in the future

The Korean media said Huawei is preparing for the worst and plans to build a large memory chip warehouse as a means of insurance. To achieve this, Huawei’s senior executives contacted Samsung and SK Hynix to reach an agreement to provide a stable memory chip. Today, however, a Samsung representative declined to confirm the issue, saying that such negotiations have not yet occurred.

If Samsung agrees to help Huawei build the memory chip storage, this will be a huge source of revenue for the Korean giant. This will help the company improve its DRAM and NAND market share and increase sales this year.

If the U.S. extends the ban to memory chips, only Huawei will be affected because most Chinese mobile companies are Samsung customers in the DRAM segment.
