In the context that Huawei is still heavily influenced by the US Government embargo, the manufacturer continues to launch its latest flagship generation, the Mate40-series, including 4 versions: Mate40, Mate40 Pro, Mate40 Pro + and Mate40 RS Porsche Design.
While the launch event was introduced in English, demonstrating Huawei’s efforts to bring its products to the world, it’s undeniable that, for now, it’s buying yourself one. Huawei devices that cannot use Google services are unwise.
Huawei Mate40 Pro – Possibly the best Android phone …
The Mate40 Pro launched with many notable improvements and a reasonable price compared to the other 3 versions. If the Mate40 cuts some features (such as wireless charging) or the Mate40 Pro + / RS has a too high price, then the Mate40 Pro is a machine that “reconciles” both hardware factors and price. That’s why in the Chinese market, this is an extremely popular selling version. In addition, the majority of Vietnamese merchants also only carry portable versions of the Pro (and a few versions of RS Porsche Design).
The design of all 3 Mate40 versions this year will be the same, improved from the predecessor, and is also combined with the design of the P40 Pro launched earlier this year.
The version that we experienced is the leather-imitation back version, the blue option (slightly reclining to fern blue) looks quite eye-catching. Unlike the glass back panels, the Mate40 Pro has a leatherette back that feels quite comfortable to hold and does not stick to fingerprints / sweat.
The leather back version will be slightly thicker than the glass back version (9.5mm versus 9.1mm). The device weighs 212 grams, so for some users the Mate40 Pro can feel a bit big when holding
Although Huawei this year does not mention too much about the “waterfall” screen of the machine, but there is a change in the direction in favor of users: The return of the volume keys
On the Mate30, Huawei removed this keystroke because the screen of the device was too curved, forcing users to use gestures to activate the volume bar. However, this year Mate40 saw the return of the physical volume key. Obviously, the physical key operation always gives a better experience
This year the camera on the Mate40-series continues to be rated as having the best quality (reference: DxOMark). The Mate series has always been appreciated for camera quality, from hardware to software, and has always been in the top of the smartphone with the best camera in the world.
Huawei Mate40 Pro is equipped with extremely impressive image processing algorithms. Indeed, the photos taken from the Mate40 Pro, in addition to being of good quality thanks to the large sensor, are also processed by AI software to improve the final photo. Just look at the image processing below of Mate40 Pro we can understand how powerful Huawei’s automatic algorithm is.

Overall, Huawei’s cameras are getting better and better and we can’t deny that. Not only the camera, performance and many other elements of Huawei Mate40 Pro are also performed very well on its new flagship line.
Kirin 9000 5G for the first time on new Mate phones, this is the best performance chip on the market today.

Not to mention the Mate40 Pro is also very well optimized with the current top battery life, accompanied by 66W super fast charging technology. Mate40 Pro is considered one of the smartphones for the most impressive battery usage experience
“Google” – The one pulling Huawei down!
Since before the sanctions from the US government took effect, Huawei has always been a rare manufacturer in the Android world that can sell its flagship products, directly competing with the two giants, Apple. and Samsung that no other company can “survive” in this segment.
However, the loss of Google services due to the influence of the US ban has caused Huawei’s smartphone business to plummet, Huawei smartphone market share in the Vietnamese market has even dropped below 1% and maintained until now.
Considering the main reason why Huawei smartphone sales have dropped, none other than Google: Losing Google services means that users can hardly use Huawei devices in a “normal way. ” Best. Despite trying to launch services like Huawei Mobile Services or AppGallery to replace Google services, but in essence, users (and especially Vietnamese users) can hardly use smartphones. without the applications that have become basic in everyday life such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos …
Just considering the user’s reaction to the fact that Google announced it will no longer host photos and videos for free on the Google Photos platform since June of next year, you can see that Vietnamese users (largely) depend on Google services to the extent
In the past, we tried to use the Huawei P40 Pro without Google services to see if the services Huawei provided as a replacement turned out to be good and usable as usual, It is clear that, in the end, the experience of using without Google services is summed up in three words: very inhibitory.
Huawei provides HMS service and AppGallery app store instead of Google service as well as Play Store for users.
The Mate40 Pro itself is not a cheap machine. In Europe, Mate40 Pro has a price of up to nearly 33 million VND, while in the domestic market of China, Mate40 Pro has a starting price of 23 million VND for the 8GB / 128GB version. In April, Huawei also brought the P40 Pro to the Vietnamese market for 24 million dong. The price of Huawei’s flagship is not necessarily too high compared to flagship from Apple or Samsung, however, to spend more than 20 million dong to buy a device for “inhibited” use experience, we obviously hardly have. We recommend that users buy the Mate40 Pro, although this is a very good machine in terms of many factors.
The Huawei Mate40 Pro is a very good Android phone
Who is the Huawei Mate40 Pro right for?
Although it is difficult to recommend users to choose to buy the Mate40 Pro in the context of Huawei’s future is still “ambiguous”, but this machine will still be suitable for certain users.
– The first is Huawei fans who live in Huawei’s ecosystem (using Huawei smartwatch or Huawei laptop …), simply a machine that meets basic usage needs. Mate40 Pro will bring a better experience when using the same ecosystem.
If you are a user of the Huawei ecosystem, the Mate40 Pro will be a suitable product, at least for those who love Huawei products.
– The second object suitable for the Mate40 Pro is those who are passionate about mobile photography, which will certainly not disappoint you in the ability to take pictures. However, if you have a need to store photos using Google services (Drive / Photos), you will probably have to reconsider because as far as we know, it is difficult to install Google on a new Huawei device, if yes, there are also potential security risks.
The Mate40 Pro has an extremely good camera, especially in low light
If you are not in the two categories of users mentioned above, then perhaps Mate40 Pro is not the smartphone for you. Instead, in this segment, the choices from Apple, Samsung, OPPO … will be more reasonable. Although they may not be able to compete with Huawei in some aspects such as cameras, fast charging … but these machines give users the most comfortable experience without being constrained. This is also something that users should keep in mind before choosing any high-end smartphone.
