Huawei cherished smartphones with selfie cameras hidden under the screen, no physical keys

Tram Ho

Although facing many difficulties after the US government ban, Huawei is still developing strongly and continuously launching more smartphones, as well as new patents. Recently, the company has been granted a patent for a special phone, with a hidden camera under the screen and a virtual key on the side of the device.

Model A

The new patent was filed with CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) in 2019, but it was not officially approved until early this month. In addition, it is also registered with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and contains a total of 14 images depicting two smartphone models with some design differences.

Specifically, the first device (model A) has a full-screen design with ultra-thin bezels on all sides. Without the appearance of a recessed camera or a “hole-in” camera, it is highly likely that it will have a selfie camera hidden under the screen.

More importantly, this screen is also expanded and curved into two small areas on the sides. This will be where the virtual keys are, replacing the physical key and using the same as the volume key, the power key, or even supporting other functions.

Model B

The only difference between the two devices described in the patent is also located here. While the first smartphone has a slight defect, only slightly curved on the side, the “redundant screen” on the second device (model B) is stretched and spilling to the back of the back.

Unfortunately, there are still no leaks related to either of these phones. At the same time, this is just a “paper-based” patent, so whether Huawei applies it in practice or not is another story.
