Huawei CEO “exploded”: “Just 2 years of Harmony OS will be on par with Apple’s iOS”

Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Commerce put Huawei on the blacklist and restricted US companies from cooperating with the Chinese giant. As a result, Huawei cannot use the Android operating system, nor do Google applications and services.

After the ban was issued, reports revealed that Huawei was well prepared for the worst possible scenario. It’s a separate, locally developed operating system called Harmony OS.

Most recently, Huawei has launched a device running Harmony OS, which is Honor Vision TV. However, Huawei’s latest flagship phones, the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro, still run Android, albeit not in the official version and without Google’s services, as well as the Play Store.

It seems that Harmony OS is not yet ready to be used on Huawei’s smartphones. But in a recent interview, CEO Nham Chinh Phi boldly declared that Harmony OS can be compared with Apple’s iOS in the next 2 years.

“I think it could take about 2 to 3 years. Because I am part of the board of directors, I need to be cautious about setting these milestones. If not, I can put a lot of pressure on the company’s employees, ” Huawei CEO added about the ambition to develop Harmony OS on par with iOS.

Mr. Ren Zhengfei also acknowledged the fact that Huawei’s expected sales revenue would drop by $ 10 billion, because it was unable to use Google services on its smartphones. But even so, the Chinese giant’s revenue for the first half of 2019 still reached $ 58.3 billion, or 23.2% higher than the same period last year.

When asked about the future between Google and Huawei, he said: “We hope we can continue to use Google’s operating system, and we remain committed to working with Google. We still need to keep improving the software. ”

Overall, Huawei is very confident with the self-developed Harmony OS. But if given the option, Huawei will still use the Android operating system and Google services. Let’s wait and see where Huawei’s future is headed, and whether Harmony OS will become a worthy competitor of iOS and Android or not?
