HTC launches Vive Pro 2 virtual reality glasses: 5K screen resolution, 120Hz frequency, price 799 USD

HTC just released its Vive Pro 2 virtual reality headset, an upgrade to its premium virtual reality headset, with a bunch of small but well worthwhile enhancements.

The biggest upgrade of this version is the screen. Vive Pro 2 is equipped with a screen resolution of 5K (2,448 × 2,448 pixels per eye), a frequency of 120Hz and a wide viewing angle of 120 degrees. This is a huge upgrade over the first Vive Pro version of 2018, with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,600 pixels and a frequency of 90Hz.

Vive Pro 2 also supports Display Stream Compression (DSC) technology, first equipped with a virtual reality headset. DSC is a lossless standard that keeps image data transmitted to virtual reality glasses intact, often seen on high-end monitors.

HTC says that the Vive Pro 2 will provide “minimal motion blur”. HTC also notes that the screen door effect, which shows gridlines on many old VR glasses, has been almost completely eliminated on the Vive Pro 2.

This virtual reality headset is also certified for high quality sound (Hi-Res Audio Certified), simulating 3D spatial sound. In addition, Vive Pro 2 has many customization capabilities to help the wearer feel most comfortable.

In terms of design, the Vive Pro 2 is also slightly improved. The look is more sleek and genuine, along with a slightly more compact size than its predecessor.
