Google Pixel Watch users will be able to touch their skin to control

This year, Google promises to launch its first smartwatch, called Pixel Watch. The leaked image shows that the Google watch will have a circular face, will be equipped with Wear OS operating system and will have exclusive Google features.

One of the exclusive features of the Pixel Watch that other Wear OS watches don’t have is a new technology developed by Google. It is called Skin interface for Wearables, which can be understood as controlling wearable devices by touching the skin.

With this technology, Pixel Watch users can use gestures on their skin to control the watch. This “skin interface” feature will allow gestures such as swipes or taps, performed on the skin near the wearable, for control like swiping and tapping on a watch face.

As we all see, the size of the smart watch face is quite limited, so when performing on-screen controls with fingers, it’s easy to be obscured and difficult to be accurate. Allowing gesture control on the surrounding skin, will make the watch face more open and easy to see during control.

Not only the application on the Pixel Watch, Google also intends to use this technology on its Pixel Buds wireless headset product line. Similarly, users can control by touching or swiping on the skin near the ear, while wearing Pixel Buds Pro.

The Pixel Watch is likely to be launched in May, at the Google I/O 2022 event. Meanwhile, there is no word on the next version of the Pixel Buds headphones.
