After a rather lackluster year in the smartphone market, Google promises to make a more impressive comeback this year with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro duo. This will be Google’s new high-end flagship smartphone duo, completely renewed inside and out, promising to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone 13.
Google Pixel 6 will be very similar to iPhone, will be an iPhone of the Android world. Pixel 6 will also be Google’s most special smartphone. Because this is the first time Google will equip a processor of its own design, along with a new, more optimized operating system.
Google’s “Whitechapel” processor
The fact that Google is developing its own processor has been rumored for quite a while, and it will officially appear on the upcoming Pixel 6. A recent leak revealed that Google’s custom processor chip will be manufactured on Samsung’s 5nm process.
There have been leaks about a new chip codenamed Slide, which will be manufactured by Samsung’s Exynos 2100 chip line. Therefore, Google’s “Whitechapel” processor promises to deliver similar performance to the Exynos 2100 chip in the Galaxy S21. Another source revealed that Google’s processor chip will be similar to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870, this is a higher overclocked version of Snapdragon 865+ launched in 2020.
However, the processor itself designed by Google will be fully compatible with the Android 12 operating system. Just like Apple did with the A-series chip and the iOS operating system, which there is no smartphone company yet. Any Android can do it.
Especially when compared to the Pixel 5 which is only equipped with the mid-range Snapdragon 765 chip, the Pixel 6 will show a huge improvement. In addition, the Pixel 6 will be equipped with 8GB of RAM, while the Pixel 6 Pro will be 12GB.
Android 12 operating system biggest change ever
Hardware is improved, but it won’t be enough without a better optimized operating system. Android 12 promises to do just that, not only better and more feature-rich, but also smoother.
Android 12 is greatly improved by Google in terms of interface, motion, icons, widgets, settings menu, wallpapers, themes, colors and applications. But the most important change is what we don’t see.
That’s what Google calls Android System Server, Activity Window, and Package Manager background management. Android 12 will have more control over how the system’s background apps communicate with each other, much like how iOS manages background apps. As a result, applications will launch more smoothly and use less system resources. This is a step that helps shorten the gap between Android smartphones and iPhones in terms of speed and smoothness.
Up to 5 years update commitment
Google will commit to operating system and security updates for its next flagship smartphones within five years. We still see Apple update the new operating system for devices that are 5 or 6 years old, while the update of Android smartphone manufacturers is often delayed.
Recently, Samsung and OnePlus announced a commitment to 3 years of Android OS updates and 4 years of security updates for their flagship smartphones. The fact that Google adopts a software update strategy like Apple is very welcome, the speed of Google’s updates will certainly also be instantaneous when a new operating system version is released.
Especially when Google’s new Android versions are not only to launch more features but sometimes users never use. Google’s new Android versions will change both the interface and improve performance, so being updated with the new operating system will be of more interest to users.
Therefore, it is certain that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro when launched will cause a new shock to the smartphone market.
