Google just had to remove a dangerous application, check it right away if you don’t want to “evaporate” your Facebook account

Recently, researchers have discovered a fake ChatGPT application, designed to steal Facebook accounts .

“By hijacking well-known business accounts on Facebook, crooks will run ads to spread malware with victims’ money,” said researcher Nati Tal of Guardio Labs.

The fake app, called “Quick access to Chat GPT” (Quick access to Chat GPT), is said to have attracted 2,000 installs a day since March 3, 2023. It has now been removed by Google from Google Chrome Web Store as of March 9, 2023.

Quick access to Chat GPT is advertised as providing the ability to use ChatGPT for free. However, the researchers claim that the app is designed to surreptitiously collect cookies and Facebook data using an already active authentication session.

The hacked Facebook business accounts are then used to advertise the malware, thus extending the effectiveness of its distribution to users.

The appearance of ChatGPT fake applications is not new. Statistics show that, since its introduction at the end of 2022, ChatGPT has been spoofed on many platforms using various methods.

Last month, Cyble discovered a campaign that lured users to visit a fake ChatGPT website to spread information-stealing malware, such as RedLine, Lumma and Aurora.

“The success of AI tools like ChatGPT has caught the attention of scammers. They use the technology to execute highly sophisticated investment scams on unwary Internet users. ,” Bitdefender shared last week.

If you have installed the Quick Access Chat GPT application by mistake, users should uninstall it immediately by typing chrome://extension in the address bar, then click Uninstall at the Quick Access Chat GPT section.
