Good news for the gaming community: A series of OLED gaming monitors appear at CES 2023

OLED TVs have never been suitable for use as computer monitors. Still, some gamers have used them as monitors because of their ability to deliver near-perfect picture quality at a price comparable to high-end gaming monitors.

The downsides are pretty obvious, with mismatched display stands, a TV-focused interface, and no DisplayPort, a staple for super-fast PC gaming. The visual pros may outweigh those cons – for some – but it would be great if manufacturers could eliminate most of these cons altogether. Thankfully, better alternatives now exist, and most interestingly, they have appeared at the same time for us to choose freely.

At CES 2023, many companies announced product models using LG Display’s 27-inch flat and 45-inch curved OLED panels. They are complete computer monitors with sturdy, height-adjustable stands and all the ports needed for PC gaming. They also have a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03 millisecond response time. With this batch of panels, LG and Acer both released 27-inch and 45-inch screen models respectively, while Asus and Corsair used to create designs that were a bit more experimental.

Samsung is also at a crossroads, as both a panel and display manufacturer. While its new QD-OLED technology appeared inside Alienware’s AW3423DW display last year, offering slightly brighter performance than traditional OLED panels, the company is also launching two displays. its own curved form in 2023. We will have a 34-inch Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED, along with a 49-inch ultra-wide screen called the Odyssey G95SC .

Even in its infancy, the world of OLED gaming monitors is a broad and comfortable playing field that companies are eager to enter.

And the price goes up even more with larger sized products. LG’s curved 45-inch UltraGear starts at $1,699. Corsair’s similarly sized Xeneon Flex costs $1,999. Samsung did not share the price of the 49-inch Odyssey G95SC model, but it is likely in the range of $3,000 or more.

While none of that is cheap, gaming itself (especially on PC) is an expensive hobby, and these monitors are in the range where non-OLED models are expensive. money has been holding for many years.
