Good news for iPhone 11 series users: Apple will calibrate the battery to fix performance and capacity issues

Tram Ho

Apple has just said it will try to fix battery drain and performance issues, which has been affecting some devices in the iPhone 11 series by recalibrating their batteries in an upcoming update. According to Apple’s support documentation, this process will happen when users update their iPhone 11, 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max to the upcoming iOS 14.5.

Also according to the documentation, it can take several weeks for the system to figure out how much battery capacity is left and how much performance it can provide. It looks like users won’t notice too much of a difference in the process, though there will be a message in the battery status section of the settings menu explaining what’s going on.

This process is currently being tested in the latest release of the developer beta. But as long as Apple has a support page for it, it’s likely that the feature will be included in the final release. If the recalibration fails, for some reason, Apple says it or an authorized service provider will replace the battery at no cost to the user.

It’s not uncommon for Apple to release a document on the battery change before it starts to happen. The company has been much more transparent about making changes to the iPhone’s power supply system since the manufacturer was found tweaking the performance of older iPhone models to protect the battery.
