As Samsung’s summer Galaxy Unpacked event approaches, we’re seeing more and more leaks about the new Galaxy Z Fold3. Samsung’s next-generation folding screen smartphone has been confirmed to launch on August 11 along with other products such as Galaxy Z Flip3, Galaxy Buds2 or Galaxy Watch4.

As a super high-end smartphone from Samsung, many users expect this device to come with the most powerful Snapdragon 888+ (Plus) chip that was introduced by Qualcomm a few days ago. However, new information from the Geekbench performance scoring platform has shown that Samsung will continue to use the standard Snapdragon 888 chip for the new Z Fold series.

Specifically, a Samsung smartphone codenamed SM-F926U has recently appeared on Geekbench’s database. This is the code name of the Galaxy Z Fold3 that was revealed a few months ago. Accordingly, Galaxy Z Fold3 will have 12GB RAM, run on Android 11 platform and equipped with standard Snapdragon 888 chip.

The standard version of Snapdragon 888 launched late last year has 8 cores, including one high-performance Kryo 680 core clocked at 2.84GHz, three Kryo 680 cores clocked at 2.42GHz and four power-saving Kryo 680 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. With the newly released Plus version, Qualcomm has increased the clock of the high-performance core to 2,995GHz (approximately 3GHz).

So, those who are expecting the Galaxy Z Fold3 to be the smartphone with the most powerful performance at the time of launch may be somewhat disappointed. However, this is a super-premium product line, and the user segment that Samsung wants to target is not the “prime chip” users, instead, users who want to experience the high-end, the luxury as well as the new technologies that this machine brings. Therefore, equipping the most powerful chip is probably not Samsung’s top priority for the Z series.

Information from the FCC certification site in the US market has also previously confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold3 will support the included S Pen, integrated NFC chip. This device is also expected to be Samsung’s first smartphone equipped with hidden camera technology (UPC).
