Samsung has always used the One UI user interface to provide customizations and features not found in the traditional version of Android. One UI version 3.1.1 promises to be available soon on both Samsung’s newly launched folding screen smartphones.

Although One UI 3.1.1 is not a major update compared to the previous version of Samsung’s interface, there are some notable improvements, especially increasing battery life for the product.

One of those improvements is to bring new features of the Galaxy tablet line to the two latest folding screen smartphone models to protect and increase smartphone battery life. Both foldable devices have a Device Care option called Protect battery” or “Protect battery”.

Device owners can find the feature in Device Care settings, then tap the Battery icon and navigate to “More battery settings” or “Other battery settings.” However, there is a caveat when enabling this feature, although it can help increase battery life, when the “Protect battery” option is enabled, it will limit the maximum battery charge to 85%.

A battery that is not charged up to 100% will reduce the device’s uptime and can cause the phone to run out of battery suddenly when the user needs it most. Studies show that charging a typical battery to 100% will negatively affect the battery’s performance in the long run.

Samsung is certainly not the only smartphone manufacturer to offer a setting that limits the amount of capacity when charging. Before that Apple and some other Android manufacturers did this. It seems that Samsung is more concerned with the battery life of foldable smartphones than it is with the Galaxy S21 series.

Because on the latest Galaxy S21 series after receiving the One UI 3.1.1 update, there is no “Protect battery” feature.
