Earlier this year, Samsung announced plans to commercially produce 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, using 3rd generation 10nm technology, in the second half of 2020.
Samsung also said it has set up a new production line at its Pyeongtaek plant in South Korea, to begin mass production of the industry’s first 16GB LPDDR5 RAM.
The next generation of Samsung RAM is manufactured on Samsung’s 3rd generation 10nm process, using EUV ultraviolet etching technology.
Samsung says the new generation of RAM will provide the highest speed and maximum capacity among all the RAM on smartphones today.
The new generation LPDDR5 can transfer data at a rate of 6,400 Mb / s, 16 percent faster than the 12GB LPDDR5 on the galaxy Note20. LPDDR5 16GB can transfer 51.2GB of data in just one second, equivalent to transferring 10 FullHD movies with 5GB capacity.
Using the 10nm process also means that the new 16GB LPDDR5 will be up to 30% thinner than the previous generation. 16GB LPDDR5 RAM memory needs only 8 memory chips, while the previous generation LPDDR5 will have to use up to 12 chips.
Galaxy S21 (S30) launched in early 2021, will be the first smartphone equipped with 16GB of RAM LPDDR5 this new generation. However, not only that, Samsung also confirmed that the new generation of RAM will be found in many other smartphones as well.
