Galaxy Fold improved and the tablet is revealed in Samsung’s patent

Tram Ho

Will one of these designs be carried on the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2? Or will we see an upgrade of the Galaxy Fold at the IFA 2019 event next week?

Samsung is investing heavily in a future where foldable devices dominate the market. While the Galaxy Fold has not yet been launched, there are a number of patents that describe the next foldable phones, both from Samsung and others, including a folding screen phone. Z, or a phone with a unique scroll screen. However, the two patents we’re talking about here show that Samsung seems to be taking a somewhat conservative direction for its foldable phones.

These two designs have quite a lot of similar components, and the biggest difference between them is mainly concentrated in the hinge position – one device folds vertically, while the other device folds horizontally. . The first design, temporarily called Model A, reminds us of the top screen of the Nintendo DS console. The screen on the outside has a fairly square ratio, suitable for holding horizontally. In the upper left corner of the screen is a selfie lens, and below the screen is a hinge. The back of the device has a 3-lens camera cluster. When folded, this design gives us a device that is quite wide across the standards of today’s smartphones, which looks more like a classic PDA.

The second design, temporarily called Model B and Model C, is more familiar to us when there are many design ideas similar to the current Galaxy Fold. The outer screen is longer and thinner, more fitting to use with one hand than the first design. The selfie lens is above the screen, while the back also has a 3-lens camera cluster. Once opened, you will see the internal lens is placed on a rabbit ear that is skewed to one side of the screen – it seems Samsung is wondering where to put this camera assembly.

These designs clearly look much more conservative than some we’ve seen in previous patents, and will probably be easier to manufacture given today’s technological limitations. . Therefore, Samsung’s next foldable device will most likely use these designs, rather than the Z-fold design or roll screen. However, the rather strange design of Model A makes us wonder whether this patent is for smartphones? With a somewhat square design that aims to hold the device horizontally, is Samsung working on the idea of the Galaxy Tab Fold? A tablet will often be held horizontally, and it will be much more reasonable if Model A is designed towards the tablet.

Let’s wait and see!
