Former Apple chief designer Jony Ive joined Airbnb

Online vacation rental giant Airbnb said yesterday it has hired former Apple CDO, Jony Ive and his company LoveFrom to help design future products and services. .

Announced in a blog post from Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky, Ive will be working on next-generation “products and services” as a consultant. design. It seems that the person who designed the iPhone will report directly to Chesky, or collaborate on design initiatives with the CEO, throughout what is described as a “multi-year relationship”.

“Jony will also help us continue to develop our in-house design team, a team he believes is one of the best in the world,” Chesky wrote. “I know he’s particularly excited about a relationship that will evolve into deep collaboration with our creative team.”

As noted by The Information , Ive and Chesky have known each other for many years. Ive helped create the Airbnb logo in 2014, while Chesky wrote Ive’s biography on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in 2015.

Airbnb yesterday also told employees that their design director, Alex Schleifer, would leave their executive position to move to part-time. Schleifer led the company’s design team for six years.

This news comes ahead of Airbnb’s initial public offering, which is currently targeted in December.

After nearly three decades at Apple, Jony Ive left the company in 2019 to found independent design consulting firm LoveFrom. Ive played a key role in shaping Apple’s famous design language during his long time at the company. His “fingerprints” are on everything from iPhones to Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino.
