Tired of Face ID technology on iPhone? Don’t worry, recent sources have revealed that Apple is developing a new authentication technology called Ear ID to replace traditional Face ID and Touch ID. Ear ID technology will have the help of AirPods to help authenticate the user’s identity in a completely automatic way.
If you thought that the ear could also be used as a personal identifier, then yes, new Apple technology will allow AirPods devices to emit sound waves and create a 3D map of the body. state inside the user’s ear. And because no one is the same, this 3D map of the state can be used as an identity feature, which can then be used to verify identity when needed.
The above information is mentioned in a patent filed by Apple earlier.
“User identity authentication can be based on the collection of biometric information from a device, such as a wireless headset. For example, different signals may be emitted from the headset. wireless in which the echo picked up by the headset will also be based on the output signal, which will correspond to a biometric state associated with the user’s ear.
By comparing it with the reference biometric information, the authentication process will identify the user’s identity.”
In other words, the AirPods will take on the task of emitting signals and receiving echoes back, thereby being able to authenticate the user’s identity by comparing with the correct information. This is similar to how Face ID works, using the TrueDepth camera cluster to scan areas of the face and create a 3D map of the state of each area of the user’s face.
Of course, we should not expect too much from this technology because Apple, like many other manufacturers, always files many patents and not all inventions will be realized. And with the need to use accessories like AirPods to work, Ear ID may not be an alternative to traditional Face ID or Touch ID, but will only be a complementary solution. in addition to biometric authentication methods only.
