Following in the footsteps of Apple, Samsung puts the address bar below the web browser on smartphones

Tram Ho

Apple this year has made some significant changes to Safari on iOS 15, in which, bringing the address bar to the bottom of the screen is one of the most noticeable. While this change may upset some iOS users, Samsung is following in Apple’s footsteps with a new option to move the mobile browser’s address bar to the bottom – much like Safari.

New layouts have been added to the Samsung Internet beta app update. In the Layout and Menu settings, there will now be an “Address Bar Location” option. There, users can choose between the traditional layout and the new layout with the address bar at the bottom.

With the address bar below, the Samsung Internet app looks quite similar to Safari on iOS 15, the navigation buttons will also be below the address bar.

Apple is of course not the first company to try such a layout for mobile web browsers, other companies like Google have tried it years ago. However, Samsung seems to have decided to change the layout of its mobile web browser shortly after Apple did.

After receiving many user complaints, Apple has allowed users to return Safari to the old design in iOS 15, although the new layout is still enabled by default. The company has also released updates to the iPadOS and macOS versions of Safari with a similar purpose.
