Failure in court, the chairman’s daughter moved closer to extradition to the United States

As the relationship between Huawei and the US government became increasingly tense, the trial of the extradition of the Chinese company’s CFO, Meng Wanzhou, became more closely monitored than ever. During the trial that took place last night (Vietnam time), the Supreme Court of British Columbia announced an important decision.

According to its ruling, the court held that the case had the standards of a “double offense”, and so the extradition hearing would be allowed to continue. The ruling is a blow to Huawei, which hopes to end the case and bring Meng back to China.

Earlier, in a limited trial in January on Canada’s legal doctrine of “double offenses”, it was claimed that in order to be extradited to another country, an object needed to face the charge. criminal coercion in both Canada and the host country. So with the recent ruling, the extradition process of Meng Wanzhou to the United States will continue.

Ms. Meng and the surrounding bodyguards.

This is an important moment for the long story about the fate of Meng and Huawei themselves. She was arrested at Vancouver International Airport on December 1, 2018 at the request of US authorities, with allegations against her and Huawei.

The allegations stemmed from a Justice Department investigation into the relationship between Huawei and several affiliates, including Skycom Tech Co Ltd, which allegedly sold telecommunications equipment to Iran and violating US embargo. Huawei uses U.S. technology in its products, and under U.S. export regulations, companies are prohibited from transferring that technology to embargoed countries. Huawei has repeatedly denied that it controls these companies.

For nearly a year and a half, Meng has been under house arrest in Vancouver awaiting the deliberation of Canadian courts. The case has received close scrutiny from China, the United States and the Canadian government, and has become a symbol of the ongoing trade war between the United States and China.

Last week, Huawei was hit by another blow when the British government, which supported its participation in its own 5G network, suddenly changed its attitude. Accordingly, not only gradually reducing the use of Huawei equipment, the British Prime Minister also wants to completely eliminate the company from its 5G network in the next 3 years.
