Anthony Di Ioria, the co-founder of the Ethereum network, has announced that he is withdrawing from the world of cryptocurrencies, partly due to personal safety concerns.

Di Iorio, 48, has always had a team of bodyguards with him since 2017, even when traveling or meeting. In the last few weeks, he plans to sell Decentral, a blockchain-focused startup, to focus on philanthropy and other non-crypto-related businesses. He is expected to gradually withdraw from a few other startups and has no intention of investing in any more blockchain projects.

“There’s so much risk that I’m not enthusiastic about crypto anymore. I don’t feel the necessary security in this area. If I focus on the bigger issues, I think I will be more secure.” .

Currently, Di Iorio refuses to disclose the amount of cryptocurrency he holds and the value of his personal assets.

In 2013, Di Iorio co-founded Ethereum – the world’s largest cryptocurrency network – allowing anyone to borrow money, and transact with others, without the need for intermediaries like banks. Ether currently has a market value of $304 billion.

In 2018, he made headlines when he bought the largest and most expensive house in Canada, paying almost all of it in digital currency. This is a 3-storey penthouse for $ 30 million in St. Regis Residences Toronton – which used to be the Trump International Hotel & Tower building of the US President Donald Trump’s house, is located in Toronto’s central business district.

In recent years, Di Iorio has jumped into the field of venture capital and is an advisor to startups. He also had a stint as Chief Digital Officer for the Toronto Stock Exchange. In February 2018, Forbes estimated his fortune to reach 1 billion USD. The price of Ether is now double that time.

Decentral is a Toronto-based innovation incubator and a company specializing in innovation and software development in the field of decentralized technology. The company has a Jaxx digital asset wallet that has attracted around 1 million users this year.

Di Iorio says he is working with several potential investors and believes the startup will be valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. He also plans to sell the company for cash or shares in another company, not for cryptocurrency.

“I want to diversify myself not only as a person in the crypto space but also as a problem solver. I will use crypto when needed but most of the time I don’t. This is part of it. very small that the world needs”.

He is currently involved in Project Arrow, a project run by a high school friend to create a zero-pollution vehicle. In addition, he also advises a congressman in Paraguay.
