Elon Musk will delete 1.5 billion accounts, Twitter is flourishing
- Tram Ho
According to FOX News , on the morning of December 9, billionaire Musk tweeted that: “Twitter will soon start deleting personal pages of 1.5 billion accounts.”
In another tweet on the same day, Mr Musk said: “This is the removal of accounts that clearly have no tweets and have not logged in in years.”
Mr. Musk also said: “Twitter will show the number of views in a few weeks, like a video. Twitter will be much more alive than people think.”
Meanwhile, according to Business Insider , Musk previously promised to remove inactive accounts from Twitter. In November, he said accounts that had been inactive for 15 years would be deleted.
At this time, it’s unclear how long an account can be inactive before being deleted. In October, Elon Musk hinted that accounts that have been inactive for more than a year could also be at risk.
A Twitter representative did not immediately respond to Business Insider ‘s request for comment.
Twitter usage appears to have increased in the weeks following Musk’s takeover. On the first weekend of November, Twitter saw the most daily active users ever, according to data from Apptopia.
FOX News also reported that the changes come as Elon Musk is moving away from the company, a tool that modifies users’ speech, and toward a free exchange of opinions.
These documents were called “Twitter files” by Elon Musk, which he shared with Substack journalist Matt Taibbi and journalist Bari Weiss.
The files show that Twitter’s ongoing content moderation was decided “at the highest levels of the company, without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey”.
