Elon Musk: All species on Earth will die, need to switch to interplanetary life

Tram Ho

According to SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, the Sun is gradually getting bigger and it will one day lead to the extinction of all species on Earth, to cope, we have to turn to interplanetary life.

Musk’s tweet came as an indirect response to a Biological Review article titled “The Sixth Mass Extinction: Fact, Fiction or Speculation?” Robert Cowie, one of The authors of the paper, write that there have been five mass extinctions on the planet to date and a sixth has begun.

While the previous five were caused by extreme natural phenomena, the current mass extinction is entirely due to human activity. Estimates given in the paper suggest that 260,000 species may have disappeared, including invertebrates such as snails and slugs (shellless slugs) since 1500.

Cowie and his colleagues suggest that conservation efforts need to be actively undertaken, while continuously monitoring biodiversity.

When another Twitter user shared this article, Musk responded and stated that the expanding Sun is also a big threat.

“There is a 100% chance that *all* species will go extinct due to the expansion of the Sun, unless humanity inhabits multiple planets , Musk said.

According to Cornell University, our Sun will actually expand when it runs out of hydrogen and when it does, it will cover the Earth. Musk is pointing out a real problem, and everyone knows that his company SpaceX is looking for possible ways to create interplanetary human civilization.

However, as Musk emphasized in his tweet, ‘all’ species on the planet are at risk, and so far, SpaceX has not talked about how it plans to save them. Unless SpaceX has a plan to make a “Noah spaceship”.

Musk’s escape plan is important, but it’s only a Plan B. What we need is a Plan A to deal with the environmental upheavals that are happening right now.
