Donald Trump’s social network topped the App Store chart

Truth Social comes out about a year after the former US president was permanently banned from Twitter and several other mainstream internet platforms for inciting the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

Up to now, Twitter’s “variant” is the highest-ranking free app on the App Store in the US. The rest of the Top 10 are: Talking Ben the Dog, HBO Max, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Messenger and Peacock TV. Truth Social is also the #1 trending title in the App Store’s “Social Networks” category.

“ What makes Truth Social different? We are a social media platform free of political discrimination. Join us to share, communicate, ” the app’s description reads.

Since its launch, the Truth Social app has experienced overcrowding due to the large number of subscribers. Many users reported encountering errors when trying to sign up for an account.

Currently, Truth Social is only available on Apple’s App Store system. The Android version of the app seems to be under development and doesn’t have a specific release date yet.

The company behind the app, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), previously announced plans to go public in Q1 2022. TMTG says its mission is to create competition and counter the “Big Bigs.” Tech” of Silicon Valley, which has used its unilateral power to “silence dissenting voices in America”.

According to Truth Social’s terms of service, users must be 13 years of age or older (and anyone under 18 in relevant jurisdictions must have consent from a legal guardian to participate).
