“Design wizard” Jony Ive and Ferrari supercar company announce a multi-year partnership

In June 2019, Apple announced that design director Jony Ive was leaving the company, after which he founded his own independent design company called LoveFrom. Since then, information about Ive and LoveFrom has been sparse, with the exception of a multi-year partnership with Airbnb announced last year.

Recently, however, Ferrari and Exor (the parent company of Ferrari) announced a multi-year partnership with LoveFrom to “explore projects in the luxury business”. Ferrari says the partnership will create products that can “change the world”.

Under the leadership of John Elkann, the Italian investment firm has diversified its investments in recent years beyond the car industry. Exor also controls Juventus SpA Football Club and the reinsurance business PartnerRe, as well as a stake in Stellantis NV, formed from the merger of Fiat Chrysler with PSA Group.

Other details on the extent of the cooperation were not disclosed. The statement simply confirms that Ferrari is working with the design firm led by Ive and Marc Newsom.

A report in June said that “at least four” Apple design staff had also left Apple to join Ive at his new design firm. Those four employees include Wan Is, Chris Wilson, Patch Kessler, and Jeff Tiller, all of whom worked on Ive’s design team at Apple. Apple’s design team is currently led by Evans Hankey and Alan Dye.
