TikTok ‘s quarterly transparency report shows that it had to remove about 113 million policy-violating videos in the second quarter of 2022. ” This number is only 1% of the total number of videos uploaded to TikTok in the same time period ,” – technology site The Verge said.

Most of the deleted videos involved content harmful to children when accounting for 44%. Other reasons are: illegal activities, non-promoted goods as well as videos with suspected nudity, adult content…

The figures also show that in the second quarter of 2022, TikTok’s automated system removed 48 million videos that violated the policy. About 96% of videos are removed before users can report bad content. TikTok says it uses an automated algorithm that incorporates human reviews to screen for content that may violate its usage guidelines.

The Chinese social network giant has recently worked to tighten video censorship to prevent the spread of misleading and fake news. The short video platform with more than a billion users helps young people create content, but is also considered a place to spread many harmful trends.

Also related to TikTok, a US Commerce Department official in early September revealed that the White House was considering banning this social network.

The US has repeatedly put TikTok on the “tracking list” for fear of threatening national security. Many US congressmen suggested that ByteDance’s video network should be blocked because it collects US user data and sends it to the Chinese government.
