Compare specifications of Samsung Exynos 2200 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip

Despite the rumors that Samsung will not launch the Exynos 2200 processor, yesterday the high-end processor was officially announced. Samsung also introduced the important parameters of the Exynos 2200 processor, the most notable of which is AMD’s GPU graphics processor for the first time integrated in a mobile chip.

Exynos 2200 is equipped with a GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture, supporting advanced graphics features such as ray tracing. Besides, this processor is manufactured on Samsung’s latest 4nm EUV process, and includes new CPU cores.

Performance score of Exynos 2200

Geekbench 5 has announced the performance score of Galaxy S22 Ultra equipped with Exynos 2200 chip (code SM-S908B). Accordingly, single-core performance reached 1,109 points and multi-core performance reached 3,534 points. The clock speed of the processor is recorded at 1.82 GHz.

The most important new features in the Exynos 2200 on the Galaxy S22 include:

– Support for ray tracing and variable rate shading for the first time on a mobile processor.

– Samsung Xclipse GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture.

– Samsung’s 4nm EUV manufacturing process.

– 5G modem chip with maximum speed of 10 Gigabit, sub-6GHz and mmWave bands.

– Supports 4K resolution on 120Hz.

Here are the latest features in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1:

– 5G X65 modem with maximum speed of 10 Gigabit.

– The first 18-bit image signal processor on a mobile chip.

– The first 8K HDR 10+ video recording support on smartphones.

– Extremely low light photography feature, take 30 photos at once and combine the finest details into one photo.

– Always-On ISP for instant face unlock.

– Qualcomm’s 7th generation AI engine, supports accurate voice recognition.

– New Bluetooth Low Energy feature, supports livestream, recording and video calling when playing games.

Below is a detailed specs comparison table between last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Exynos 2200, Exynos 2100, and Apple A15.

Both the latest Qualcomm and Samsung processors support unique new features, as well as 5G connectivity with a new generation modem chip that provides superior download speeds. For comparison, the Apple A15 based on the 5nm architecture was released last year, so it is understandable that it is more outdated than the two competitors.

According to the graphics performance tests, the Xclipse GPU based on the AMD architecture of the Exynos 2200 does not outperform the Adreno 730 of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. But the bright spot is the support for high-end graphics features for the first time. first appeared on smartphones, as ray tracing or variable rate shading. In addition, Exynos also supports 4K resolution on 120Hz, something that no other processor currently does.
