China forces all citizens to provide facial recognition data

Starting on December 1, China has enacted a new and unprecedented law in the world. It is forcing all people to provide face recognition data when registering a new phone number. This data will be sent to the telecom company, then sent to the Chinese Government.

"The new law is applied to protect the legal rights and interests of people on cyberspace," the Chinese government said. Before that, China also applied facial recognition technology to control and evaluate people's behaviors.

Normally, when registering a new phone number with a telecom operator, Chinese people will have to provide identity card and photo (like many other countries). However, this is the first time people have to use face recognition technology on smartphones, to scan faces and send data to the network.

The new law will help the Government control and eliminate anonymous phone numbers, increase security and avoid fraud. China has also adopted a number of laws to ensure people use their true identities on the internet.

However, there are many objections, arguing that these facial recognition data will be used to control people.
