In the past few months, information that Apple wants to accelerate the production of Apple Car electric vehicles has appeared quite a lot from Korea, because Apple is said to have come to the land of kimchi to directly meet car battery manufacturing partners. LG, SK, Hanwha or car manufacturer Hyundai/Kia.

Now, an unnamed source told the Maeil Economic Daily that Apple skipped this stage of negotiations and went to find suppliers for spare parts and end components on its own.

Before that, some reports indicated that Apple has had a car research & development department since 2014, but switched to cooperating in the form of a joint venture with one of the big players in the industry such as BMW, Hyundai, and Nissan. or Toyota.

Apple could develop and produce electric vehicles on its own instead of waiting for a partner with industry experience.

During this time, the hardware R&D division appears to have ceased operations in 2016, although the autonomous research software division continues.

After that, Apple focused on negotiating with partners, but many times failed and the shift to electric cars slowed down the process of establishing the joint venture. Some automakers are reluctant to offer to be contractors for Apple. In the end, Apple decided to make its own electric car after it couldn’t wait any longer, according to the source.

Despite just losing a senior executive to Ford, Apple is said to still have hundreds of engineers to restart its car research & development division. According to the latest news, Kevin Lynch in charge of technology has just been appointed as the head of the Apple Car project to replace Captain Doug Field who has just left for Ford.

Apple has now gone through the process of submitting Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Requests for Quotations (RFQs) to global auto parts manufacturers. This is a signal that Apple Car end suppliers are being selected for outsourcing.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the launch time of Apple’s electric car may fall between 2025 and 2027, but may be delayed to 2028 due to the lengthy research process.
