People need to be wary of online money lending scams

On August 24, the Thanh Khe District Police (Da Nang City) said it was investigating an online fraud case with a sophisticated scale and tricks. A victim in the district has borrowed a money package of 100 million dong through a mobile loan application (app), but was required to transfer dozens of times with the amount of tens of millions of dong each time. different fees. The total amount of money the victim has transferred to the subject is 655 million VND, then this money and the subject have “evaporated”.

Specifically, around 9:30 am on August 23, the police of An Khe ward (Thanh Khe district) received a message from Mr. DA (SN 1983, resident of An Khe) about the case of being scammed online.

According to the testimony, on August 21, Mr. A. received calls from 0926.485.516 and 0568.779.101 claiming to be Thuan. This person asked him if he needed to borrow money, he agreed. This person made friends with him via Zalo and instructed Mr. A. to download the Mofin app to perform the steps to borrow money. After agreeing to a loan of 100 million VND, Mr. A. entered his personal information into the above app and proceeded to withdraw money to his account.

The application required to pay more money to the online wallet to fix the error before continuing to operate, so Mr. A paid money to account number 9704229201796030416 named PHAM THI THANH belonging to Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB). ) amount of 20 million dong, then the Mofin app still reported an error asking to deposit money into the wallet 2 more times, 20 million dong and 18 million dong. Then the Mofin app continued to report an error with the reasons: “Risk guarantee”, “Credit score enhancement”; “Transfer Order Insurance”, “Risk Insurance” asked Mr. An to continue transferring money 7 more times: 52 million VND; 105 million VND; 165 million VND; 50 million dong; 100 million dong; 60 million dong; 65 million dong. Then, when he was asked to transfer another 300 million dong, Mr. A. suspected of being cheated and went to the police station to report. The total amount of money Mr. A. has transferred 10 times is VND 655 million.

Currently, Thanh Khe District Police have accepted and are investigating to expand the case. Victims who have encountered similar scams should quickly contact the nearest police agency for reception and guidance.

The situation of lending money through the app has been going on for a long time, the subjects took advantage of the favorable and fast online loan psychology, without having to go to the bank to make a formality, the subjects set up the above pages. Social networks run ads to reach victims. Next, the subject will send a link to CH Play, App Store … so that the “prey” installs the app on the phone and registers an account on the app. When the victim logs in to the app, fills in the required information and is approved to lend the amount requested by them. The disbursed amount has been shown on the app, but the borrower can’t transfer, withdraw and the app is locked, because of the error “incorrect syntax”, “over limit”, “wrong bank account number”.. From there, the subjects asked the victim to transfer the deposit to reopen the app before disbursing. Or they ask victims to buy loan insurance, pay disbursement fees… Notably, many victims transfer money as many times as required to get a loan, but when they know they have been cheated, they can’t get back the transferred amount. .

People should note, all loans should contact the nearest bank branch where they reside or call the bank’s hotline number to be guided by the staff to complete the loan procedures. People absolutely do not carry out loan procedures through working with people claiming to be bank employees on Facebook Fanpage, website, Zalo using logo images, images impersonating the bank.
