ARM claims to continue working with Huawei, since its technologies are not originated from the United States

ARM chip design firm has just announced that it will continue to work with Chinese companies, including Huawei's HiSilicon. Despite the recent U.S.-imposed ban on Huawei, ARM is a British company and its technologies are not of U.S. origin.

ARM China CEO Allen Wu said the company would continue to license technology and provide service support to Chinese partners. ARM's legal division judged that V8 and V9 architectures – designed to make common microprocessors on smartphones and mobile devices – are technologies originating in the UK. not from America.

ARM's latest commitment is crucial to China's technology sector. Especially for Huawei, as it still has to use ARM chip designs to produce Kirin processors for its smartphones.

The US-China trade war is still intensifying. The U.S. has also punished Huawei by blacklisting the company, and banning cooperation with American companies. In addition, the US government has asked ARM to stop cooperating with Huawei, saying that ARM's technologies originated in the United States.

Thankfully for Huawei, after a thorough review, ARM confirmed that its chip designs are based on technology from the United Kingdom. Therefore the relationship of the two sides will not be affected by the US ban.
