Apple’s market share in Vietnam has dropped the deepest in more than a year

In September 2019, Apple’s market share in Vietnam reached 5.6%, the deepest decline in more than a year. According to GfK data that ICTnews has obtained since June 2018, Apple has never dropped so deeply.

Apple’s market share declines periodically. It has had 3 consecutive months of decline since July this year, in line with last year’s downtrend. Experts say the sentiment of waiting for new iPhones has caused users to reduce spending in these months, and start to launch money in the last months of the year, especially at the time retailers open new Apple smartphones.

IPhone purchases also bottomed out in September last year, then increased again in October, and peaked in November – the time when Apple’s new smartphones were officially launched by retailers in Vietnam.

However, compared to September 2018 at 6.3%, this year Apple declined, to only 5.6%. Apple’s market share for the first nine months of this year reached 7%, down 1.6% over the same period.

After 3 consecutive months of losing market share, Apple continued to cede the 3rd position of Vietnamese smartphone market to Xiaomi. Chinese phone company has nearly half a year of steady growth, July 3 to August 8, Apple has a market share exceeding Apple to occupy the third position each month. In September 2019, Xiaomi accounted for 10.7% of all smartphones sold in Vietnam.

Ranked fifth in the market is Vivo, with 5.4%. Last month Vivo remained in this position with 5.6% market share.

Meanwhile, Realme’s “dark horse”, after growing in June and July, continued to decline two months later, to only 3.7% in September this year.

In September, Samsung and Oppo remained firmly in the top two positions, which is hard to reach.

In the first 9 months, Apple still holds the No. 3 with 7% market share, Xiaomi ranked 4th with 5.9%. Samsung and Oppo hold the highest positions with 39.6% and 28.7%, respectively.
