Apple stopped producing iPhone 12 mini, due to too low sales

Apple’s iPhone 12 series has been very successful, thanks to design changes and 5G support upgrades. However, in it, iPhone 12 mini is a failure of Apple. Sales of iPhone 12 mini were so low, that Apple decided to stop producing this compact iPhone.

According to TrendForce’s report, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini reached the “end of life” state in early Q3/2021, when sales were too low. Apple will still sell existing stock this summer. However, the iPhone 12 mini is officially discontinued permanently.

The production stoppage is very early, meaning that the iPhone 12 mini will also officially stop selling before the iPhone 13 launches in September this year. Meanwhile, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are expected to continue to be produced and sold by Apple.

Despite low sales, Apple still plans to launch iPhone 13 mini to succeed the iPhone 12 mini. However, the lesson learned may cause Apple to reduce the iPhone 13 mini’s factory output, and focus more on large-screen iPhone models.

iPhone 12 mini has a screen size of only 5.4 inches, with the same configuration as the iPhone 12. However, this compact iPhone has a huge drawback is the battery capacity. The trend of favoring compact smartphones is also gone, as consumers get used to the experience on large screen devices.
