Apple still launches the new iPhone on time but mass production will be delayed

A new report from the Wall Street Journal shows that Apple will delay iPhone 12 mass production time by about one month compared to normal. A source from the WSJ said the change came from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic as it disrupted supply and disrupted Apple’s plans to mass produce the iPhone 12.

Earlier rumors said Apple will introduce four new iPhone models this year, all using OLED screens with a 5.4-inch version, two 6.1-inch versions and a 6.7-inch version. .

Usually these new phones will be launched in September each year and start selling before the end of the month. In order to do so, Apple’s mass-production operations will start in early summer and then in August is the time for iPhone reserves to be able to deliver on time.

Despite having to postpone mass production for about a month, this has no direct impact on Apple’s launch of the iPhone 12. A source from WSJ said Apple will still produce new iPhones between July and September, but a delay in mass production could mean new devices will be in shortage this year.

The report from WSJ also said that Apple is cutting 20% of new iPhone production in the second half of this year. However, it is not clear whether iPhone production cuts in 2020 will be pushed back to 2021.

This is not the first time Apple’s iPhone production has been delayed. The 2017 iPhone X didn’t hit the shelves in November due to manufacturing problems. The same thing happened with the iPhone XR when the device was introduced in September 2018, it was not until October that it could hit the shelves due to problems with the production of LCD screens for it.
