Apple is ordering Samsung prototype screens for foldable iPhones

Tram Ho

Ice Universe recently announced that Apple has asked Samsung to provide prototype folding screens. If everything goes according to plan, Apple could sign a one-year supply deal with the South Korean giant.

This year, Samsung is expected to sell Apple 70 million OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone 12. LG Display plans to supply 18 million OLED panels. Therefore, Samsung continues to be the supplier of the main screen panels for Apple.

Going back to the foldable iPhone, there have been reports that Apple is developing a device with a two-screen design similar to the Surface Duo. But the test screen that Samsung recently provided to Apple belongs to the type of folding screen, like the Galaxy Fold.

Therefore, it is possible that Apple has changed its strategy. Instead of developing a device with two screens, instead develop a device with a folding screen. It may be an iPhone-like device, but when opened it offers an iPad-like experience.

There are also reports that Apple will launch a foldable iPhone in 2023. But if Ice Universe’s sources are accurate, then things seem to be going faster. Hopefully we’ll see a foldable Apple iPhone or iPad soon next year.
