Apple ditched the MagSafe magnetic charging port five years ago, when switching to the USB-C charging port on its new MacBook laptops. This decision makes many MacBook users regret, because the MagSafe charging port is really very useful and can be lifesaving in many cases.

Now, Apple has suddenly brought back the MagSafe magnetic charging port on its latest MacBook Pro. That’s the MagSafe 3 charging port, and users can still charge the MacBook Pro using the USB-C port like previous generations.

In addition to the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro have removed the much-hated Touch Bar, replacing it with familiar physical function keys. Besides, additional connectivity ports such as HDMI and SDXC have also been brought back.

But perhaps what makes MacBook fans most excited is the fact that Apple put the MagSafe 3 charging port on the new MacBook Pros. Not only makes charging simpler and more convenient, MagSafe 3 will also charge faster than USB-C ports. Apple didn’t give detailed specifications, but said that the new MacBook Pro’s fast charging can charge up to 50% of the battery in just 30 minutes.

Apple says that both new MacBook Pros will still come with a USB-C charger and a 2m USB-C to MagSafe 3 charging cable. In particular, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with 8-core M1 Pro CPU will come with a 67W charger, a 10-core M1 Pro or M1 Max CPU CPU will come with a 96W charger. The new 16-inch MacBook Pro will come with a 140W charger.
