Apple begins production of iPhone 14 in India

According to information from TechCrunch, Apple is using Foxconn facilities in Sriperumbudur, India, to produce its latest generation of iPhones. While Apple has made its flagship iPhones in India before, iPhone production in the country comes after that iPhone line has achieved a certain amount of growth. Apple only started manufacturing the iPhone 13 in India in April, and it has done the same with other iPhone models, including the iPhone 12 and 11.

Information about Apple’s plans to close the gap between the time it takes to move production from China to India first appeared in August, with the goal that Apple would complete production of the first iPhones in India. at the end of October. A source told Bloomberg that Apple and Foxconn have resolved supply chain issues, allowing Apple to move production to India more quickly.

“We’re thrilled to be manufacturing the iPhone 14 in India,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch.

Apple did not immediately respond to The Verge’s request for comment.

Apple first made iPhones in India in 2017 with the goal of reducing the company’s dependence on China due to its growing conflict with the US. Apple also laid out strategies to make the devices more attractive to the Indian market, as making devices in India could make them more affordable domestically. According to TechCrunch, the standard iPhone 14 is currently priced at Rs 79,900 (about $980) in India, as opposed to a price tag of $799 in the US.

Decent companies, like Google, also seem to be looking at manufacturing hubs outside of China. Google is said to be planning to shift production of its Pixel smartphones to India or Vietnam. Samsung has been manufacturing devices in the country since 2007 and opened the world’s largest phone factory in India in 2018.
