Apple and Amazon – The relationship “the rice is not good, the soup is not sweet”

There are side stories exposed by Congress in an antitrust hearing on July 29. The event was attended by 4 CEOs of Big Tech groups including Apple, Google, Facebook and Amazon.

The US Congress published the message of the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs along with his colleagues Eddie Cue, Philip Schiller and Greg Joswiak. Did they discuss whether or not to let Amazon’s Kindle app sell books on the App Store?

The relationship “rice is not good soup is not sweet” between Apple and Amazon.

Apple has long kept a distance from Amazon, when the retailer intends to become a device manufacturing company, starting with the Kindle Fire reading machine. In fact, Amazon has sold a lot of Kindle Fire for $ 199, 2.5 times cheaper than Apple’s iPad.

In November 2010, Phil Schiller revealed that Amazon is promoting the Kindle app as a convenient way to read books on iOS and Android operating systems. In response, Steve Jobs offered an ultimatum to Amazon to force them to use Apple’s payment system and pay commissions, or remove the app from the store.

“Phil, I agree with you 100% . It’s time they (Amazon) decided to use our payment mechanism or quit the game (referring to the App Store).

I think it’s time to start applying (the rules) to all but the existing subscriptions (but applying it to new people), “ wrote Steve Jobs.

With instructions from the CEO, Cue drafted a new policy for applications on the App Store in February 2011. A few days later, Apple officially announced new policies.

In the approval message, Jobs emphasized that iBooks would be the only book store on the App Store. Everyone else pays a commission for Apple.

“I think it’s as simple as this – iBooks will be the only bookstore on iOS devices. We have to keep our heads up. A person who can read books bought elsewhere, just don’t buy / rent / post signing from iOS does not pay us, which we know is banned for some reason, Steve Jobs responded to Cue’s letter.

In response to Apple’s actions, Amazon did not sell iPhones on its marketplace. Shortly thereafter, Amazon and other booksellers also deleted links to the Kindle Store on the App Store when Apple introduced a new game rule.

Since then, Apple has allowed users to download the Amazon Kindle app on the App Store for free, but they can’t buy books directly.
