According to Business Insider , a US user named Theodore A. Kim sued Apple for $1,383. That is also the price of the iPhone 12 that Kim owns, and then this person is denied warranty even though the device is still within the warranty period.

This iPhone 12 was purchased by Kim in October 2020 in Vietnam. According to the owner of the machine, the machine has a 2-year warranty period, ie until October 2022.

When he returned to the US, Kim said he noticed that the iPhone 12 had problems reading the SIM card of the US carrier. When contacting Apple, Kim was recommended to bring the device to the Apple Store for repair.

However, after being reviewed by Apple technicians, Kim was denied warranty on the grounds that his iPhone had “touched” the internal hardware.

When Kim asked specifically how his iPhone was touched, the staff working at the Apple Store could not give an answer. Worse, he received his iPhone 12 back with a damaged SIM tray.

Dissatisfied with this, Kim filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), a consumer rights organization in the US. Kim confirmed that the iPhone’s SIM tray was damaged by Apple technicians while attempting to repair it. He said that Liz, the manager of the Apple Store where he repairs the iPhone, confirmed this.

Responding to a complaint from BBB, Apple said that if the SIM tray is damaged during the repair process, it will be ready to fix it completely.

Before submitting a complaint to BBB, Kim said that he had offered to pay for his device to be repaired, but Apple refused. He then continued to email complaints to Apple CEO Tim Cook, but did not receive a reply.
