In an interview with financial news site Barron’s, AMD CEO Lisa Su discussed a variety of topics, including how the pandemic has impacted AMD and its operations.

Like most other players in the market, AMD suffered the same fate of idle operations as chip shortages continued to strain. However, Su believes that the storm will pass and 2022 will be a prosperous year for the global chip supply chain. Of course at this point, the chip scarcity is still going on.

But one bright spot is that the price of graphics cards is starting to cool down in many markets. This partly proves that chip output is gradually getting better.

“We usually make decisions years in advance. But a lot has happened in the last 12 months and the demand has far exceeded all of our most positive expectations. From our perspective, AMD will need to continue to increase capacity because the market demand is very strong.”

During the interview, Su also discussed plans and strategies to confront rivals Nvdia and Intel. The company recently acquired Xilinx semiconductor company for up to $35 billion.

In particular, Su mentioned how AMD pioneered chip technology and wanted to stay competitive against rivals through innovation activities.

According to many rumors, AMD may launch the Radeon RX 6600 XR and RX 6600 series of GPUs in August.
