Amazon AWS cloud platform is gradually losing market share to Microsoft Azure

Yesterday independent analysis firm Canalys released its latest report on the global cloud computing market in Q4 2019 and the whole of 2019. The report shows an incredible fact, the AWS platform Amazon is losing cloud computing market share to Microsoft’s Azure in 2019.

For the whole of 2019, Amazon AWS is holding 32.3% of the market share, down from 36% in 2018, while Microsoft Azure now has 16.9% of the market share, up from 14.2% of 2018.

The difference in market share between Azure and AWS in 2019 also decreased to only 15.4% compared to 18.5% in 2018. Canalys report also shows that, in 2019, Azure brings a revenue of 18 , $ 1 billion for Microsoft, almost half of AWS’s $ 34.6 billion revenue.

Canalys emphasized in its report that: “The growth of Microsoft Azure was higher during this quarter, when it showed an appeal to business customers and benefited from expanding the range of paths. Microsoft has added a messaging service to its partners to increase Windows Server 2008 workloads for Azure when support ends. “

The Canalys report also shows that companies like Alibaba, Amazon, Baidu, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Tencent have spent a total of more than $ 60 billion in 2019 for data center infrastructure.
