Recently, there has been information that Samsung Electronics has moved some production lines from its factory in Vietnam to Korea, leading some to believe that Samsung is moving its production location out of Vietnam. However, the information about changing the production location that has been responded by Samsung is incorrect.

Samsung Electronics confirmed to the press that it will not move the company’s production location from abroad to Korea: “In order to ensure stable production of folding screen smartphones, some component production lines follow regulations. The project of the Vietnamese partner was transferred to Gumi at the end of August and September 2021”.

In contrast, recently, Samsung has made many moves to show its high commitment to Vietnam. Typically, the investment of an additional 920 million USD in the factory in Thai Nguyen. On February 16, 2022, the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen province granted the adjusted investment registration certificate to Samsung Electro-Mechanics Vietnam Co., Ltd. In parallel with the investment, today (February 22), the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Department of Industry) cooperated with Samsung Vietnam to organize the “Signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in smart factory development between the Ministry of Industry and Trade”. The Ministry of Industry and Trade and Samsung Vietnam have researched and built a cooperation project to develop Smart Factory in Vietnam with the goal of training 100 Vietnamese experts and assisting in consulting and improving 50 enterprises applying the Factory. smart in 2 years (2022 – 2023) in order to improve the professional ability of the team of domestic consultants, improve the production operation capacity on the information technology platform of the enterprise.

Participating in the program, the Consultants will be trained for 12 weeks (including 3 weeks of theory and 9 weeks of practice) to improve knowledge and skills to set up smart factories.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said: “I think the above cooperation project is a methodical, practical and important training program to raise the level of Vietnamese industry in the context of the revolution. Industry 4.0. I hope that the students and businesses participating in the Project will gain a lot of useful knowledge as well as necessary skills to support Vietnamese businesses to meet domestic needs and improve competitiveness in the global value chain”.

Mr. Choi Joo Ho – General Director of Samsung Vietnam Complex shared: “In this project, experts from Samsung Korea in the field of smart factories will participate in direct instruction at the factories of the enterprises. participating businesses, so I hope that this support will be a premise for businesses to raise their capacity to a new level.”

The smart factory development cooperation project is the latest program in a series of innovative consulting activities for Vietnamese businesses and training Vietnamese experts to effectively replicate, strengthen synergy and improve efficiency. continue to strengthen supporting industry development activities implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with Samsung.

Since 2015, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Samsung have cooperated to implement an improvement consulting program to improve competitiveness for 379 Vietnamese enterprises. During the period 2018-2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Samsung trained 406 experts in supporting industries in Vietnam. In addition, realizing the importance of the mold field in industrial production, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Samsung continued to implement a project to train 200 mold technicians in the period of 2020 – 2023.
