Admittedly unable to crack the iPhone, the FBI continued to ask Apple for help

Tram Ho

In early January of this year, the FBI asked Apple to unlock two iPhones related to the Pensacola shooting. Apple at that time maintained its notion of not creating a backdoor on iOS but would help as much as possible without crossing the ethical boundary. However, experts believe that the FBI is still capable of unlocking the iPhone 7 and iPhone 5 in this shootings thanks to outside security companies.

But according to a new Bloomberg report, the FBI today said it still could not unlock the two iPhones. That was the latest statement by the FBI director, Mr. Christopher Wray before the Justice Committee of the US House of Representatives when he said the FBI now ” is in contact with Apple to see if we can get better assistance from they want to access that phone . ”

Two iPhones need to be unlocked during the shooting at Pensacola.

Previously, many experts believed that the FBI could easily unlock these two older iPhones if they resorted to the help of third-party security companies like Cellebrite or GrayKey. This happened in the shooting in San Bernardino five years before the FBI went to these companies to unlock the gunman’s iPhone.

Not only that, but recently the FBI successfully unlocked the iPhone 11 in two other cases, it seems that the agency wants to take advantage of the case in Pensacola to pressure Apple to force them to break the security layer of yourself.

Anyway, the latest statement by the FBI director shows that they are still continuing to attempt to unlock these devices, along with that, the cooperation with third parties is still ongoing.

At the end of January, at the same time with the news that the FBI had unlocked the second iPhone 11, President Trump said the following about the Pensacola incident:

They can give us that information. It will be very helpful. Apple has to help us. And I am very sure of that. They have the key to reaching many criminals …

Apple, meanwhile, asserts its position on security against FBI requests: ” We maintain our view that there will be nothing like a backdoor for good people .”
