According to research firm Oxford Economics, robots are on the way to “destroy” nearly one-tenth of the global production workforce.

Although automation can increase the power of the entire industry, it tends to create greater inequality when workers concentrate in certain sectors and countries will lose their jobs. According to research by research firm Oxford Economics, robots can make 20 million production locations disappear by 2030.

The most vulnerable workers are living in rural areas, where there are many industrial parks. According to Oxford Economics, Oregon is the most affected state in the US, and in Britain it could be Cumbria.

In many countries, such areas are often left behind while cities are growing. These dynamics generate political polarization, emphasizing the importance of policy to mitigate the impact of robots in vulnerable areas.

The organization’s report shows that the restructuring of the labor market is posing new challenges when many jobs are automated. Accordingly, more than half of workers in US factories have been replaced by robots in the past two decades in three areas: transport, construction and maintenance, administration and offices.

Oxford Economics commented that cities such as London, Tokyo, Paris and Seoul were less affected, though some traditional production centers would disappear.
